About the course leader:

Veronique Maria is passionate about the importance and value of creativity. She instinctively enables authentic self expression in others and is always keen to support others as they open to the depths and breadth of their own creative self.

Veronique has worked in the arts since 1975 and has been a full time self employed artist since 1980s and has worked as an artist’s mentor since 1996. She has trained and worked as a transparency retoucher, artist, designer, psychotherapist, and coach and has been mentoring artists one to one, leading workshops and teaching in schools, college and University since 1980’s. She currently leads short courses at West Dean College of Arts and Conservation, and hosts creativity retreats at her home close to the South Downs National Park.

Veronique is interested in how our relationship with ourselves, others and all things, influences and effects our creativity. She considers love and acceptance to be central to our relationship with our creative selves and regards body intimacy (our ability to listen deeply to our body wisdom) as being key in this transformational process. She’s been practicing and teaching mindfulness and meditation since 1980’s and is currently training for ordination with the Triratna Buddhist Order.

Veronique’s mentors include Professors; Danny Rolph and Michael Tucker, Sir Antony Gormley, Simon Grennan, Paul Carter and Alexandra Zierle (Zierle&Carter), and Janine Antoni. Since 1994 Veronique is been a recipient of numerous grants and awards. Most recently Veronique was awarded a DYCP grant from Arts Council England, to support further development of her creative practice, (2020-22) focusing on making ‘artists moving image’.

Veronique Maria has an honours degree in Art and Design (Wood, Metal, Ceramics, Plastics (Brighton University), a Masters Degree in Psychosynthesis Psychology Applied to Fine Art Practice (Middlesex University), and professional trainings in psycho-spiritual psychotherapy (Institute of Psychosynthesis, London), coaching (CTI London) and Co-Active Leadership (Co-Active Training Institute, USA).
